Recap: The Kezners at Fordham House Party- September 10, 2011
10/21/2010 posted by joe @ 2:15PM
In early September, we played a house party in Fordham. When we took "the stage", many people filled the hot basement barley leaving any space between the audience and the band. This contributed to the intimate feel of the show which was one of our best performances yet. The audience consisted of many new people that never saw us before but they were still wild and out of control! We fed off of this energy and played harder and faster. With such high energy, we decided to play Knowledge, a cover from punk veterans Operation Ivy . At that point, the moshing audience engulphed the performance space resulting in concert- goers joining us on vocals. People were quick to learn our original songs and sing along which always feels great. After our performance, there was a unanimous chant requesting one more song, which we began right as someone knocked out the lights. Totally rad!

On July 19th, we played at the Bowery Electric, an intimate venue featuring a unique stage set-up and great sound. We shared the stage with Windsor Drive, The L Train & Left in the Attic. This was a perfect summer show and we had fun playing for many new people. We also got to celebrate the birthday of the lead singer in Left in the Attic, Jacks.

One week after the explosive Jimmy Ryans show (read below) we were invited to play at our familiar hang out, Thataway Cafe. As usual, we got to have fun by playing some interesting choices - classics that we hadn't played in awhile and even a few new songs. Sadly, this would be the last time that we played Thataway Cafe because on October 17th, Thataway shut it's doors for good.
Here are some photos from the show.

Recap: The Kezners at Jimmy Ryans - June 25, 2011

Last June we played a show at Jimmy Ryans, sharing the stage with The Broken Steps and Left in the Attic. It was our first show since our 7 month hiatus we took over the winter to explore other projects. During that time, Mike played quite a few shows with his other band Easter Vomit. Be sure to check them out.
This was our first time playing at Jimmy Ryans and the show went incredibly well. This was largely due to the energetic people in the audience who danced throughout our entire set which lasted a little over an hour. At the very end of a particular cover by The Isley Brothers, the audience rushed the stage resulting in a sweaty mess of people hugging and cheering. Needless to say, we had a great time and can't wait to return to Jimmy Ryans.
Here are some photos from the show.

FLC Show News Coverage
10/22/2010 @ 2:31AM
The Bronx Underground's 10 year Birthday Bash at FLC is certainly gaining a lot of media attentions. The show was a celebration honoring the Bronx Underground and the many bands that have performed at their shows over the last 10 years. Our full recap can be read here.
The weather was much nicer for our second show at Frank Bees and we occupied most of our time doing improvisational songs about Frank Bees, halloween costumes and dinosaurs. Thanks to many of our friends who came by and got to witness some of the unique occurances of the day: the brave child who decided to perform with us, our all new metal song and our foray into having our faces painted. After all these years, it's hard to believe we didn't do this sooner. Here are some photos from the Oct 23rd show at Frank Bees:

Vintage Burlesque recap
10/22/2010 posted by joe @ 2:30AM
The show at The Broadway Bar in Amityville was awesome! First up was Big Daddy Deluxe who had people singing and dancing along with their set of rockabilly classics. Up next was Adam Rinn's sideshow act. It's not everyday that you see a guy hammer nails into his nostrils and swallow fire but Adam "The First Real Man" did those things and more. Along with him, were two lovely Burlesque dancers: Diviana Devour and CiCi Marie. These ladies were sexy, talented and entertaining. After they got the crowd worked up, we took the stage and played a bunch of originals & a handful of covers. Highlights include playing our old show opener Yellow Dog Takeoff which feature solos from every band member and an extremely energetic cover of Shout. We play much better when we can feed off the energy of the auidence and that night, the audience was in the right state of mind. Everyone was dancing and going wild. At one point CiCi, who was dancing during our whole set, even came on stage and gave Mike a kiss. I spoke with the rest of the band after our set and we all felt very grateful to see so many people dancing and enjoying themselves. Special thanks to all of our friends & family who surprised us by showing up for the show.

Our first day back at Frank Bees featured us playig for more than 5 hours in strong wind. Despite the slightly cold weather, we had a good time welcoming the Halloween feeling. We grew up in Throggs Neck and every Fall, we purchased our school supplies, book-bag patches, trapper-keepers and Halloween costumes at Frank Bees. Big thanks to all our friends who came out to share the experience with us, we're forever grateful for your support. We can't wait to play there again on Oct 23rd & Oct 30th! BXUG 10 Year Celebration at FLC Recap
10/25/2010 posted by The Kezners @ 2:24am
We had an awesome time playing at FLC to celebrate the Bronx Underground turning ten year's old! The show at FLC was full of nostalgia and testament to the effectiveness of the DIY music scene. We were honored to be a part of such a special show which featured an amazing line-up of bands. We were especially excited to be playing once again with our friends in What's Your Problem Brian and Dibs on Anthony! It felt as though we were teenagers again, playing at Waterberries or the Manheim Beach Club.
Over the years, The Bronx Underground has spawned a welcoming and diverse music scene and it's this assemblage of various genres that make the shows exciting. The Bronx Underground hosted most of the early shows we played and exposed us to a wide audience. As a band, to be offered a show is a big deal. Playing music, despite all of the stereotypes, is a tough job. You put your heart and soul into writing songs, practice the songs, struggle to carry your guitar amps and drums everywhere - all for the hope that somebody feels moved by the music, making it all worth it. Without the Bronx Underground, we wouldn't have had that outlet. They gave us a reason to keep doing something which meant the world to us.
You can read full recaps of the show in The Daily News and The Bronx Ink. Here are some photos from the Oct 8th show at FLC:
